Man jailed 2 years for stealing 10 bowls of uncooked rice, alcoholic drink in Osun
A 29-year-old man, identified as Fatai Ganiyu, was yesterday sentenced to two years’ imprisonment by the Osogbo Magistrate’s Court for stealing 10 bowls of uncooked rice and four bottles of alcoholic drink.
Ganiyu was first arraigned in court on October 10, 2016, when the police prosecutor, Mereti Wilson, read his offences to the court, stating that the 10 bowls of rice the convict stole was worth N8,000, while the bottles of drink was valued at N10,000.
According to The Punch, the prosecutor had also explained to the court that the 29-year-old man broke into the shop of one Okeola Comfort of the Oke Ayepe area, Gbongan, at about 2am and stole the goods.
Wilson had said, “Fatai committed an offence contrary to and punishable under sections 283 and 414 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, vol. II, Law of Osun State, Nigeria 2002, punishable under Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, vol.II, Law of Osun State, Nigeria, 2002.”
Ganiyu, represented by his lawyer, Seye Oluyombo however, pleaded guilty to the two counts preferred against him.
The court magistrate, Adejunoke Olowolagba, pointed out that Ganiyu was found guilty on two counts of intent and stealing and was sentenced to one year each for the two counts.
The jail terms will run cumulatively.
