Emir Sanusi denies attacking Katsina Emir on teenage marriage

Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II

The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has refuted a story that he attacked his Katsina counterpart, Abdulmumini Usman Dikko, over the alleged abduction and forceful marriage of a 14-year-old girl, Habiba Isa.

The story went viral on social media that Mr. Sanusi had expressed his outrage online at the involvement of his fellow emir in the controversial affair involving the teenage girl in Katsina.

However in a quick response to the story, the Kano emir, through one of his officials, Munir Sunusi Bayero, described the story as baseless and unfounded.

He said it was a “callous and uncharitable move to cause disaffection” between the two royal families.

Mr. Bayero said the emir has no twitter or Facebook handle, and could not have commented publicly on an issue he knew little about.

He said because of the respect and mutual understanding between the two monarchs, they would never use the social media if there was something between them to talk about.

“His Highness has no social media handles and does not even know about the issue of any teenager in Katsina or anywhere. The matter is a creation of mischief-makers aimed at causing disaffection between the royal houses”, Mr. Bayero said.

The official, who holds the traditional title of Danburam of Kano, noted that Mr. Sanusi had had cause in the past to condemn the mischievous use of his names on social media to comment on public issues or government policies.

“That was how they used the name of the Emir to say he was against government’s economic policies and to make false accusations against the government of (President) Buhari.

“So this is not the first time they are targeting the revered Emir with mischievous and unfounded speculations”, Mr. Bayero said.
