Two unknown gunmen, weekend, attacked the residence of a Catholic priest, Italo Spagnolo, in Ogun State, carting away valuables.

The incident happened on Sunday morning in the Federal Housing Estate, Ikoto, in the Ijebu Ode area of the state.

Narrating his ordeal in the hands of the robbers, Spagnolo told newsmen on Monday that he had gone for morning Mass and returned to his residence to meet the robbers ransacking the rooms.

“One of the robbers pointed a gun at me. The robbers took everything in my house,” the 76-year-old priest said.

Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the robbers have been arrested.

According to him, the suspected robbers, Akeem Dauda and Mojeed Yusuf, tied their victim’s hands and legs with chains and gagged him, while the robbery lasted.

“The cleric’s Toyota Camry with number plate, EKY 483 DE, three laptops, a plasma television set, two mobile phones, two passports, N40, 000 and E255 were stolen.

“Our men at Obada Oko got information that some people wanted to sell a car suspected to have been stolen.

“Policemen went there and the two robbers were arrested and the car was later recovered.

“The robbers confessed to the crime and we are currently investigating the case,” the PPRO told newsmen.
