It took the intervention of Nollywood star-turned-politician, Desmond Elliot, to help the Super Eagles embark on their quest to play in the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Elliot reportedly walked president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick, through the corridors of power for goverment to eventually release N100million for the team to fly to Zambia last weekend.

The Eagles went on to beat the Chipolopolo 2-1 in Ndola and currently top their group with three points .

Before then, Pinnick made desperate efforts to get the Senate to intervene with few days left to the game. He was told to present the accounts of the NFF’s sponsorship earnings since last year, before anything happens.

Elliot had to use his connections, to arrange for a meeting with vice-president, Yemi Osinbajo, who directed a memo to be put up.

“Elliot is now a politician and also a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly and it was he who brokered a meeting for Pinnick with the Vice-President,” a top government source informed AfricanFootball.com

“It was at this meeting that the Vice-President directed that an emergency memo be put up and routed through the sports minister.
