Judges arrest: House of Reps investigate DSS, condemns its action

The House of Representatives on Tuesday condemned last weekend’s raid on the residence of judges across the country by operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS.

Recall that DSS had over the weekend arrested  and later released  some Justices of the Supreme Court and Judges of high courts across the country over an alleged corruption.

Frowning at the action of the secret police, the lower legislative chamber named a committee to investigate the raid.

The decision to investigate the invasion was taken following a motion presented before the House by a lawmaker from Rivers State, Chinda Ogundu.

However, a lawmaker, Mojeed Alabi, urged the House to respect the principles of separation of powers and stay away from the matter.

The Speaker, Yakubu Dogara, did not allow contributions, saying the House would have to investigate the matter first before arriving at a conclusion.
