Fear Of Buhari: Senators Abscond Legislative Duties, Hide In Toilet During Debates On Judges Arrest
In what appears as aligning with the old saying, ‘the timidity of the omnipotence is the commencement of sagacity’, Most Nigerian senators on Tuesday absconded their legislative duties as the motion on the recent invasion of judges residence by the Department of the State Services (DSS) was considered.
Some even likened their action to the popular believe and saying that “fear of God is the beginning of wisdom” that “fear of Buhari and DSS is the beginning of wisdom” .
This fear of President Muhammadu Buhari which some lawmakers see as the beginning of wisdom, was conspicuous in the attitude of some lawmakers during plenary on Tuesday.
Contrary to what was the norm when lawmakers leave their sits and walk out of the chamber to ease themselves or answer their calls, but this new twist was added to the lexicon of the our lawmakers during the plenary on Tuesday.
What happened? Some lawmakers were seen moving to the direction where the rest room is located, which definitely points to the fact that they do not want to participate in the ongoing debate over the clampdown on some Judges.
After a while, they were briskly walking themselves back into the Chamber, after spending some minutes in the toilet (rest room), one after the other, shortly before the debate ended.
The statement of Minority Leader in the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, who also noticed this suspicious movement, corroborated this development when he jokingly said “I understand why many Senators went into the toilet during debate. It is because they don’t want their houses to be invaded by DSS”.
